Te veel geluk van Alice Munro.

De Nobelprijs voor de Literatuur werd gisteren aan de Canadese schrijfster Alice Munro toegekend. Munro (1931) is de eerste Canadees en de dertiende vrouw aan wie de prestigieuze Literatuurprijs is toegekend. Haar oeuvre bestaat vooral uit kortverhalen. De sprintster heeft het dus gehaald van marathonloper Murakami. Munro publiceerde in totaal vijftien bundels. De meeste verhalen spelen zich in haar geboortestreek af, in het zuidwesten van de Canadese provincie Ontario. Munro heeft weinig woorden nodig om een geheel eigen universum te crëeren, wars van alle drukdoenerij en vol kleine levenswijsheden. Haar pen is gedrenkt in empathie en ze beschikt over een grote dosis ironie en een geweldig observatievermogen.
